People have been raving over the new Netflix thriller Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock because of its eerie storyline. As with anything trending, wannabe comedians and regular netizens alike have taken to social media to share their own parodies of the hit.
Among them is Filipino student Tyrone Tan (@iamtyronetan) who posted a now-viral video yesterday showing his spoof.
Tan captioned his Twitter post in Filipino: “This is what happens when your professor gives you back the results of the exam.”
Yung binalik na ng prof mo yung results ng exam

In the video, Tan can be seen blindfolded and avoiding the “presence,” which in his case was a piece a test paper. He even tries to fend it off with a pencil.
Someone whispers to him in a mix of English and Filipino: “Look at your grades. Open your eyes, Tyrone. Will you pass [the test]? Open! Look at it!”
Tan frantically shakes his head no and responds: ” I don’t want to!”
In the film Bird Box, an ominous presence drives most of society to commit suicide. The only the main characters are able to avoid killing themselves is by living each day blindfolded so they don’t see the presence
Tan told Coconuts Manila through a Twitter message that he made the video in his room minutes after watching Bird Box with his family.
“I really loved the plot and the suspense of the movie so I came up with this idea to make my own version, but relating it to academics,” he said.
Tan, a fifth-year accountancy student at the University of Santo Tomas, said that what inspired him to make the video was the pressure of the upcoming semester which he says will also be his last.
“I actually made this video in order for students like me to laugh and think positively amidst all pressure and difficulties of our academics,” he told Coconuts.
That voice whispering in the video? That’s his voice too.
“The real challenge in the video I guess is holding the phone [to record myself] while pretending to use the pencil as a weapon blindfolded while simultaneously using the wind of the electric fan to move the paper attached to my phone.
“Imagine having to go through all of that alone. But it was still fun though.”
The video had over 100,000 views and 1,000 retweets as of this article’s posting.
Netizens loved it.
