A unique set up has been created for Dampalit Elementary School in Malabon. This school year, elementary school students and teachers will no longer have to ride boats nor hold classes in flooded classrooms. The Department of Education calls this the first of many “flood-free” classrooms being planned for the Northern Metro manila.
An ABS CBN News report said the the school building is virtually sitting on concrete stilts as the school building is elevated from the ground by about 5 meters. There are also no walls and divisions because the school is intended to double as an evacuation center during emergency situations. If successful, the model will be replicated in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.
