Good news: Your useless gadgets can actually help some schools.
“UP Circuit, a group of engineering students from the University of the Philippines, is collecting junk appliances or gadgets for recycling and fund-raising as part of its E-Waste Project,” reports the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The report cited E-Waste Project leader Martha Isabel Dealino, who announced that they’re accepting items until today, Wednesday, Jan 15, at Philippine Normal University on Taft Avenue, Manila.
The details of the next collection schedules this month are as follows:
1. University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, from Jan. 21 to 24
2. St. Scholastica’s College Manila, from Jan. 28 to 30.
3. De La Salle University in Manila (by appointment)
The junked gadgets are sold to Envirocycle Inc., a waste management company based in Sta. Rosa, Laguna province. The proceeds are then donated to selected schools.
The report revealed that the funds that UP Circuit raised in 2012 were used to set up 11 new workstations at the computer room of Sta. Lucia High School in Novaliches, Quezon City. Meanwhile, Caloocan City High School was chosen as the beneficiary in the 2013 collection drive.
