Student driver hits buko vendor in Mandaluyong

Maybe it’s time for driving schools to have designated practice areas for their students?

“On Wednesday morning, June 18, buko vendor Romeo Cahilig Jr. was brought to the hospital after he was hit on the leg by a sedan owned by Smart Driving School and driven by student driver Aries Paras at the Boni Tunnel in Mandaluyong City,” reports dzMM correspondent Dennis Datu on ABS-CBNnews.com.

For his part, Paras claimed he had been following a car in front of him when it suddenly shifted to another lane, apparently to avoid the slow-moving buko cart being pushed by Paras and another companion.

Paras explained that he did not notice the two vendors immediately. By the time he hit the brakes, it was already too late.

The report noted: “It was not explained why his instructor, who is usually equipped with a brake of his own, was not able to avert the accident.”

Traffic in the area got heavy as coconuts scattered all over the road and, of course, the buko vendor had to be attended to.
