So, what happens on a weekday if you close several parts of Metro Manila’s major thoroughfare without declaring it a non-working holiday? (It was a holiday for schools only.)

The answer was obvious enough to the people who suffered.
“Metro Manila commuters were forced to walk to their offices Wednesday morning, February 25, as EDSA northbound from Shaw Boulevard to Santolan was closed to vehicular traffic to make way for events held to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution,” reports InterAksyon.com.
The report noted: “Traffic jams left many stranded on the road and late for work. Public buses and private vehicles were forced to take alternate routes, clogging the adjacent streets, as well. In some instances, drivers of other public forms of transport chose to stay put in their terminals rather than brave the gridlock for a measly sum.”
While the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) had already advised the public a day before to avoid EDSA, many motorists did not heed the agency’s instructions or were not aware of the road closures.
