Stroke patient kills son in Tondo

It was his anger that made him do the unthinkable.

“Onofre Calaycay, 60—a stroke patient in Tondo, Manila who could barely move his body—stabbed his only son to death in the early hours of Wednesday, June 18, after he was verbally abused by the latter,” reports Jenny F. Manongdo in Manila Bulletin.

Rochelle Ann Alejo, 28, who lived in the same house with her father and siblings at Permanent Housing, Balut, Tondo, said that she would “never forget seeing her sick father standing in front of her brother with a blood-soaked knife as the latter held his stomach in pain while blood oozed due to a stab wound.”

Alejo futher revealed that Jake was the third in a brood of three and was the suspect’s only son. The two had reportedly been at odds for ages.

When interviewed at the detention cell of the Manila Police District homicide section, Onofre could barely speak. The report indicated that “his left hand was deformed and seemed to be stuck in a closed fist position, while he also appeared to have difficulty moving his right hand.”
