It’s pretty common knowledge that street vendors don’t exactly practice the highest standards when it comes to food hygiene, but this is clearly unsanitary and possibly unsafe.

A vendor from Baclaran was caught on cam recycling the kwek-kwek he sells in a post widely shared on FB and local media.

Kwek-kwek is hard-boiled quail egg covered in orange batter and fried until crispy, just like tempura. It’s best eaten with vinegar.

The unnamed street vendor basically removed the batter and dumped the quail eggs in a pan of water.

Though it wasn’t caught on video anymore, netizens assumed that the vendor will coat the recycled eggs in batter and sell them again. Interestingly enough, some of them found the practice okay.

As explained in one of the comments, the street vendor was just trying to make an “honest” living. One even pointed out that even eateries and restaurants recycle food.

TBH, this video doesn’t change the fact the kwek-kwek is strangely addicting — but you must know what you’re possibly getting into next time you enjoy an order.
