A 4-year-old female cat survived more than 11,000 kilometers in transit inside a freight container and arrived safely in Los Angeles, California.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) said the cat, who has been christened “Pinay”, was found on July 16th by employees of the company that owned the shipment. DACC director Marcia Mayeda said in an ABS CBN News report that the cat was very weak and frail.
Pinay has been admitted to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center’s medical unit and was closely monitored and cared for by their medical team.
Mayeda said the cat is recovering nicely and also cleared quarantine. The DACC official also said that the animal care office has put Pinay up for adoption. Until a suitable home is found for her though, she will remain in the care of the DACC.
