This woman has no plans of giving up, does she?

Earlier today, the Sandiganbayan, the Philippines’ anti-graft court, allowed former First Lady Imelda Marcos to post bail and continue enjoying the sweet feeling of freedom while they decide on her motion for leave of court, reports state.

She filed for the motion for leave of court to be able to study her post-conviction options.

The court had forfeited Marcos’ bail and ordered for her arrest because she did not appear during her case’s promulgation judgment last week, The Philippine Star reported.

However, her arrest warrant has not been issued because the motion for leave of court asked for a deferment.

Following the Sandiganbayan’s decision to let her post bail, Marcos immediately posted one worth PHP150,000 (US$2,847.23) in exchange for her temporary liberty, ABS-CBN News reported.

As we all know, she’s got plenty where that came from.

Last Friday, the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division found Marcos guilty on seven counts of graft for maintaining Swiss bank accounts that contained over US$863 million while she held government positions during her husband’s regime.

The Marcos family’s ill-gotten wealth is estimated at US$10 billion but only US$3.1 billion have been recovered in 30 years. And up until today, none of the Marcoses have been imprisoned for it.

Many questioned why Marcos still hasn’t been arrested a week after her conviction.

The Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde earlier said that they are taking Marcos’ age into consideration with regards to her arrest.

In the motion filed on Monday, Marcos’ lawyer claimed that she was unable to attend the promulgation because she was experiencing multiple organ infirmities, Rappler reported.

Fifth Division Chairman Associate Justice Rafael Lagos, however, pointed out today that her reason for not attending was different in an affidavit she filed yesterday.

In the affidavit, Marcos claimed that she did not know about the court schedule.

Marcos was sentenced to 77 years in jail but still runs free.

Oh to have all that money and power.
