Stiff penalties for the unauthorized use of police and military uniforms

It may soon be illegal for civilians to wear police and military uniforms if a bill filed by Cebu City Representative Raul Del Mar is passed into law.

Under Del Mar’s bill, the unauthorized wearing of police and military insignia, decorations, badges, patches, and uniforms carries a penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of P20,000. The unauthorized sale and production of police and military unifoms will also have a penalty of five years in prison and a fine of P10,000.

“Unauthorized persons have taken advantage of the proliferation of imitations of uniforms bearing close resemblance to the official military and police uniforms to falsely represent themselves as members of the AFP or the PNP,” Del Mar explained.
