UP advances to football finals

The Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles have advanced to the UAAP men’s football finals a week ago and are now just waiting on who they will face for the championship.

The waiting has come to an end.

The UP Fighting Maroons defeated the Booters of the Morayta-based FEU Tamaraws, advancing them to the finals and facing them with the already-waiting Ateneo Blue Eagles.

UP forward Raymark Fernandez delivered and scored the much needed goal in extra time to clinch a University of the Philippines 2-1 lead and get over Far Eastern University Tamaraws, marching them into the stage for the finals of the UAAP men’s football tournament.

Jesus Melliza scored for the Tamaraws’ lone goal in the 22nd canto handing them the initial lead but Fighting Maroon Gabriel Mendoza pushed through the ball and tied the match in the 64th.

The University of the Philippines have taken the lead over the series during their initial game with 1-0 but the Tamaraws came back strong forcing them to have a do-or-die Game 3 after a strong and dominating 5-1 revenge match during their second semi-finals meeting.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles have advanced to the finals after edging its rival, the La Salle Green Archers, in a penalty shootout last week with Blue Eagles’ Booter Jico Noel kicking in the winning goal.
