Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento and Isaiah “Ice” Ordiz foretold us that they’d go out with all guns blazing right from the get go, promising MMA fans that it would be an epic exchange of hard-thrown punches leading to a blockbuster fist-fight in the making.
Only, this one took the ground – and fast.
After coming out from their respective corners, both fighters’ eagerness to engage was obvious, even prompting the challenger Ordiz to throw a middle finger to a supposed-to –touch-gloves Sarmiento.
It was pretty evident that it didn’t sit well with returning champ.
Just seconds after the start of the bout, Ordiz opened up with a series of high kicks aiming for Sarmiento’s chin, in which the veteran guarded fairly well with his high guard. After unleashing his third kick, Ordiz slightly lost his balance after an excellent parry from the champion. He faintly lost his form and this made an excellent opportunity and opening for Sarmiento who swiftly attacked and mauled the challenger straight into the octagon’s hedge. Ordiz would take cover with a vague arm guard that only made things worse for him. Sarmiento got leverage over Ordiz in terms of position and lifted him up high and smacked him onto to the mat with a hard line and back breaking body slam that gained a gasping “ooh’s and aah’s” from the crowd.
The champion then continued his assault at Ordiz and mounted him after slamming him hard onto the ground. Sarmiento gave him an almost non-stop battering of blows, alternating from the body, straight down to his face.
Sarmiento’s experience would then take the battle from that point on. Ordiz’s lack of familiarity with the ground would cost him a heavy beating from the champ after failing to guard himself effectively while on the mat. The veteran Sarmiento got to clip Ordiz’s hands, leaving his face open for a series of blows and occasional elbows with almost no defensive guard to fight through.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first round, Ordiz then laid it all on his guts to escape the veteran’s clutches but only to fall short, leading to perfect a “kimura” that rendered the challenger in grimacing pain. And with more than a minute left into the first round, with his hand locked and wrenched by a perfect arm lock executed by the veteran Sarmiento, Ordiz called it quits and tapped out via submission, giving the defending champ Sarmiento a quick and almost easy victory.
The results hands Ordiz his first professional loss in MMA grounds, while Sarmiento celebrates his 36th win his 60th professional bout.
