Ordiz promises exciting clash with Sarmiento

Last November, both Isaiah Ordiz and Harris Sarmiento were part the pool of MMA fighters participating in PXC 34. Ordiz came home with a victory over his opponent, while Featherweight champion Sarmiento fell victim to Mark Striegl’s grappling prowess during his first look at the Lightweight division.

This time at PXC 35, they will also be present to fight at the Octagon – sharing the ring together. And rising jiu-jitsu prospect Isiah “The Ice” Ordiz has a well-thought plan on how to stop the returning champion when they clash tomorrow night at the Ynares Sports Center at Pasig for the PXC featherweight crown currently held by Sarmiento.

Ordiz has won two of his first professional fights and boasts seven Brazilian gold medals from jiu-jitsu tournaments.

According to Spin.ph, Ordiz told the press in attendance during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday that he doesn’t look at the previous fight of Harris. “For me, Mark made a good game plan of taking down Harris.” Ordiz added.

But still, Ordiz is not sure of the outcome of the Sarmiento-Striegl match. “But we don’t know. What if Mark wasn’t able to take down Harris and it became a stand-up fight?” he mused.

And a standup fight is what Ordiz really wants from the veteran Sarmiento who holds a win-loss carta of 35-24 record.

“It’s obvious that my height and length [are my advantages] but aside from that, it’s good to know that Harris and I are equal in other terms like ground,” said the lengthy 6-foot-1 Ordiz, who plans to be the third pure Filipino be crowned as PXC champion, next to Ale Cali ruling the flyweight division and Crisanto Pitpitunge who’s currently crowned as the bantamweight champion.

“I got good hands. Harris got good hands. Harris is a gamer. I’m a gamer so it’s gonna be fireworks come February 16. I can promise you that,” Ordiz concluded.
