Donnie “Ahas” Nietes is set to defend his WBO light-flyweight crown against Mexican Moises Fuentes as the main card on the upcoming “Pinoy Pride XVIII: World Champion vs World Champion,” happening on March 2, 2013, at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino at Cebu City.
Nietes (31W-1L-3D-17KOs), who’s also a former Minimumweight champion, will defend his WBO Light-Flyweight belt for the second time after successfully defending it against Mexican Felipe Salguero last year. And he’s hoping he can continue his winning streak against the slick -punching Mexican.
While challenger Fuentes (16W-1L-8KOs), who just moved up to heavier division after vacating the WBO Minimumweight crown (that was also held by Nietes before jumping in the Light-Flyweight division) is confident that he will take home the crown back to Mexico once the bell ends.
Also fighting for the co-main event is one of ALA Gym’s prized fighters, Genesis “Azukal” Servania, who will be putting his still blemish-free record on the line as he faces a dangerous foe in Indonesian puncher Angky “Time Bomb” Angkotta.
Angkotta is the reigning WBC International Silver Super Bantamweight gunning for his 20th straight victory, and is also the person responsible for Donnie Nietes’ only loss when he got the favor of a split-decision when the two clashed back in Sept. 28, 2004 in Indonesia. He will be getting Servania’s WBO Asia Pacific Super Bantamweight belt if he can conquer the ALA Gym’s stalwart and adds-up another Pinoy boxer to his string of victories. Some of his Pinoy victims are former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro and ALA Gym’s Rocky Fuentes. Only ALA Gym’s AJ “Bazooka” Banal got victorious against him in 2006.
