Is ‘Miller Time’ over in the PBA?

Looks like “Miller Time” is decreasing in the PBA’s gametime.

Even the man himself, PBA two-time MVP Willie “The Thriller” Miller is perplexed with his sudden decreased role and lacking playing time in Globalport’s rotation.

After being the go-to guy in the previous Philippine Cup conference, Globalport’s main man has suddenly become a role player, if not a benchwarmer during the games’ clutch and wading minutes – a role Miller is totally unfamiliar with.

Willie Miller takes over for Globalport Batang Pier

He is simply losing his minutes and the spotlight he’s accustomed to to Globalport’s co-main man Gary David (with whom he’s supposed to share the floor), newcomer and ball dominator Sol Mercado, and to everyone’s surprise, even rookie AJ Mandani at clutch time.

When asked for his thoughts about his dwindling minutes and role, he said, “Malaking pagbabago, baligtad ngayon (yung role ko). Pero abang-abang lang ako. Basta panalo, walang problema. So hopefully parating panalo,” Miller told Spin.ph.

He even answered, with a serious tone, how he sees his new role to the team: “Siyempre nagtataka kasi baligtad ngayon eh.”

Most of this might fall on the Batang Pier’s poor performance during the Philippine Cup where they fell at the bottom of the standings with a dismal losing record, winning just one game throughout the whole conference.

Team owner Mikee Romero however was swift to deny the allegations that the 35-year old Miller will be soon shipped-out of the team’s roster. He even said that Miller’s newfound role should be a challenge for him to step up and regain his original playing.

The season is still too early. Who knows, maybe “Miller Time” is just a bit late.
