Highly regarded Ateneo big man Greg Slaughter has already set his mind in joining the next PBA draft.
The 7-foot Cebuano cager has just finished his stellar collegiate career with
the Ateneo Blue Eagles with an impressive 5-feat championship and multiple UAAP Mythical Five selections in his remarkable résumé. He also played for the star-studded NLEX Road Warriors at the PBA Developmental League where he played ball alongside collegiate stars hailing from both the UAAP and NCAA conferences like RR Garcia of the FEU Tamaraws, San Beda standout Baser Amer, high-scoring Kevin Alas of Letran, and San Sebastian’s Ian Sangalang.
Currenty, Greg Slaughter is working his way to make the final cut of the Smart Gilas roster headed by Coach Chot Reyes that will represent our country on the upcoming FIBA qualifiers, and if successful, a slot in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
However, the Cebuano giant still stated that everything is not yet final since he still has three semesters left in his curriculum to finish his Political Science degree in Ateneo. He can follow the steps that the former Ateneo balller Noy Baclao did when he pursued his degree while playing pro ball at the PBA at the same time. The slot to play for the Smart Gilas is also a big factor that can affect Slaughter’s decision to go pro.
If he chooses to declare for the upcoming draft, Slaughter will be an appealing talent that PBA clubs will surely want to nab. He will be a sure
lock in the first or second round pick, depending on who will get chosen first between him and San Sebastian’s Ian Sangalang who also expressed his decision to jump in the pro league.
Teams that will join the scramble and put their lucks on the ping pong balls when the PBA draft lottery comes are Barako Bull, with their three first-round picks, Barangay Ginebra, San Mig Coffee, and Global Port.
The PBA draft is scheduled to take place on November 3.
