Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Evander Holyfield is in Manila.
But he’s not here to promote a boxing match; he came to the Philippines with a bigger fight at hand. Holyfield, together with company of Global Village Champions Foundation (GVCF) aims to take aid and carry out humanitarian efforts for the unfortunate people, especially children who were greatly affected by the heavy rains that pestered the land of Mindanao.
Holyfield was appointed last December as the goodwill ambassador of the foundation, which hopes to help people in need by their goodwill endeavors by launching and doing feeding programs, distribution of medical supplies, clothing and pushing education to victims of natural disasters, famine, war refugees, and the less fortunate.
GVCF is a non-profit organization which various celebrities and popular figures such as Holyfield, Muhammad Ali, Celine Dion, Michael Jordan, Buzz Aldrin are all part of. They have been providing meals and extending a helping hand to people in need since 1995, in line with the foundation’s “A Day without Hunger” program.
Holyfield, together with GVCF founder, former musician Yank Barry, told Inquirer.net that they are here to give aid and distribute nutritious meals for the affected people particularly in southeastern Mindanao.
Barry also added that they will meet up with Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in Sarangani province. Pacquiao is also a member of Global Village Champions Foundation.
