The fate of the anticipated fifth meeting of decorated boxing rivals Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez rests on what will transpire and arise today when Top Rank kingpin Bob Arum meets with the camp of Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez.
Reports from Boxingscene.com say that the meeting will have Arum try to convince the four-division world boxing champion Marquez to concur and agree to do a grudge rematch with former pound-for-pound boss Manny Pacquiao whom Marquez knocked out cold during the bleeding seconds of the sixth round of their fourth encounter.
Marquez also insisted that he won’t do a fifth fight with Pacquiao anymore after stating that everything he needs to prove was all done after finally beating Manny Pacquiao – in a very dramatic fashion via knockout – that unmistakably washed his previous losses from Pacman by way of two controversial split and unanimous decisions respectively. He also had pointed out on his earlier statements that he isn’t eager on fighting Pacquiao again, an idea that is also almost mutual by his long-time trainer Nacho Beristain, who also told BoxingScene.com that he’s in favor of having Marquez meet and clash with the Filipino eight-division world champion on a proposed fifth bout because it would be a very dangerous fight for his ward, especially with a vengeful Pacquiao that’s raring to go with Marquez and avenge his shocking loss.
But Beristain also mentioned that even with his anxiety over doing the proposed match, he will still let Marquez decide on the final call.
Rumor has it that instead of doing the fifth fight with Manny, Marquez is more interested on fighting the slugger and hard-hitting Brandon “Bam-Bam” Rios.
