Congratulations to Nonito Donaire Jr. for being named Boxer of the Year by the Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Memorial Awards and Banquet of Champions.
The 30-year old boxer won several awards and won many matches in 2012: he beat Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. for the WBO super bantamweight crown in February, he retained his WBO title, he won over Jeffrey Mathebula and got the IBF crown in July, he stopped Toshiaki Nishioka from getting his WBO title in October, and he retained his WBO crown when he beat Jorge Arce in December.
While Donaire is getting the biggest award, other Filipino boxers will also be honored, such as WBO/WBA flyweight king Brian Viloria, WBO light flyweight titlist Donnie Nietes and IBF light flyweight ruler Johnriel Casimero.
Now on its 13th year, the Elorde Memorial Awards will be held on March 25, according to Inquirer.
