Cabagnot out with injury

Petron Booster’s star point guard Alex Cabagnot is out with an inverted sprain right ankle after getting tangled with Ginebra star and reigning PBA MVP Mark Caguioa during their match with their sister team last Sunday night.

Alex’s foot was caught and got accidentally pinned down hard on to the floor by a falling Caguioa during a fastbreak play by Petron. Both Mark Caguioa and Alex Cabagnot are good friends and have known each other since their childhood days when they were growing up back in California.

“It’s not just my foot, but I also tweaked the back part of my knee. It affected the whole leg,” said Alex in an interview with Spin.ph. “But thank God, it’s nothing serious. Walang fracture and walang torn tendon.”

And asked whether he holds a grudge on Caguioa or not, “I don’t feel no grudges. Alam ko naman si Mark, go hard lagi yun. He’s a competitor,” said Cabagnot of Caguioa, who is the teammate of his older brother, Dino, at Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles.

“[Pero] hindi niya (Caguioa) yun sadya. Mark was very sorry when he saw me in this situation yesterday at the Fort,” shared Cabagnot.

This will serve a huge setback for the Petron Boosters who are playing one their best ball games coming into the season, all thanks to their energetic import Reynaldo Balkman and the cunning plays of Cabagnot, who’s now listed day-to-day and is in crutches.

But Cabagnot also stated that he’s not fearing that his loss would affect the team’s excellent play because he trusts guards Denok Miranda and Chico Lanete to step up and man the wheel for Petron.
