Ateneo de Manila University is renewing its ties with business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP).
In a statement by Ateneo President Fr. Jett Villarin, SJ, he revealed that the sports patron will once more support Ateneo’s sports program. In line with this, Ateneo has also reconsidered its mutual termination of agreement with PBA Coach Be Perasol and has re-appointed him as Head Coach of the Ateneo basketball team effective December 1, 2012.
The relationship between Ateneo and MVP turned sour two months ago after a Jesuit discussion paper on mining was perceived by MVP, who is chairman of the Philex Mining Company, as against the industry in principle. MVP then requested to be disengaged of all his involvement with the school.
Villarin announced that he is thankful to Pangilinan for this positive development in his relationship with the school and stated that they are working on a “more open and constructive partnership” moving forward, Interaksyon.com reported.
