Sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz passes away at 81

Veteran sport analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz, passed away early Sat morning (Nov 12, PH time) in San Francisco, California.

He was 81.

Nathanielsz was scheduled to be part of the TV broadcast panel for Manny Pacquiao’s Nov 5 fight against Jessie Vargas, when he felt chest pains on the way to Las Vegas, according to an ABS-CBN News report.

He later had cardiac arrest and was admitted under intensive care where he remained for almost a week.

Nathanielsz family decided to “pull him off life support” on Sat, Nov 12.

Aside from being an accomplished sports broadcaster, Nathanielsz also wrote for some of the biggest news publications in the country.

He started as a broadcaster in the 70’s. His big break was covering “Thrilla in Manila,” the monumental fight of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in 1975. Soon enough, with his unmistakable voice and lively commentary, he became a household name.
