South African woman carrying PHP40-million worth of cocaine arrested

Just because we’ve got the world’s worst airport doesn’t mean our security is lax, okay?

Authorities arrested a South African woman on Wednesday afternoon who tried to slip 8.5 kilos of suspected cocaine, estimated worth of PHP40-million, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal. A team from the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) waited for the suspect, Debbie Reyneke, who arrived in the country via an Emirates flight from Dubai. Upon checking her backpack, inspectors found the narcotics stashed in a beverage container. Authorities said their international counterparts tipped off the suspect. Reyneke was held immediately, while the contraband was brought to the PDEA headquarters for verification.
