Souls of Manila: Christian at Dangwa Flower Market

Once a week, Christian (leftmost) makes the trip to Dangwa Flower Market in Sampaloc, Manila, to buy blossoms for Simbahan na Kristiyano sa Karuhatan, in Valenzuela, whose altar he decorates every Sunday. He was officially handed this task two months ago after attending a seminar given at his church. Christian, 17, says he is happy when he hears people say that they like his work. “If the people in my church are pleased with what I do, what more God,” he says. Sometimes, his friends tag along. Here he is with two classmates from the Eugelio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology: Queenie, 17, and Ronnie, 19.

Souls of Manila is a new Coconuts series of street portrait photography inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York. Every human has a story to tell, and we intend to share some from the millions of souls who call Metro Manila home.
