We all got a wee bit too excited and jumped the gun. But until there is an official statement from the Vatican, Pope Francis’ much-awaited visit to Manila cannot be confirmed just yet.

“The Secretariat has not yet received any official communication from the Vatican or Apostolic Nunciature,” Fr. Marvin Mejica, CBCP’s Secretary General was quoted in a GMA news report.
Yes there is an outstanding invitation for the Pope to visit, confirms Henrietta de Villa, the country’s former ambassador to the Vatican. And yes, it was the Pope himself, aboard the Papal plane, who spoke about the visit to the Philippines. But until the CBCP receives an official word from the Vatican, the Papal visit has yet to be confirmed. Like everyone else, we’re waiting.
