From their high-rolling lifestyle — the luxury SUVs, the mansions in the priciest communities, among others — we believe they can do better than PHP10,000. But, we’ll keep positive and welcome all help that comes along.
“Making it already a tradition, the lawmakers will again donate P10,000 of their salary to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda,” reports Jester Manalastas of People’s Tonight. According to Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr, lawmakers could raise PHP2.8 million by passing the hat among themselves.
The PHP10,000 donation will be deducted from their monthly salary, which is to say, it is a personal donation.
The speaker said the House made a similar initiative twice this year, with the proceeds going to the displaced during the Zamboanga standoff and to the victims of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Bohol and Cebu.
We’re sure they can afford to give more but, again, we’ll keep positive.
The House is also “waiving some PHP11 billion to PHP12 billion in unused Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) from 2013 for congressmen and realigning the amount to augment the calamity funds in support of the relief and rehabilitation of Yolanda-devestated areas,” reports RG Cruz, on ABS-CBNnews.com.
