A Quezon City representative is proposing alternative measures to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to reduce traffic around the capital by at least 20 percent. Rep. Winnie Castelo said he sent the proposal to MMDA chair Francis Tolentino, and he hopes the official relays it to the mayors of Metro Manila.
Castelo is suggesting three things: the establishment of car pools in major thoroughfares, implementation of a total truck ban, and removal of all bus terminals along EDSA, which, according to GMAnewsonline.com, “is expected to meet the most opposition.”
The car pool is meant to get more people on the road with less cars, while the total truck ban removes all large vehicles along the roads. Taking out the bus terminals should likewise serve a similar purpose of getting big vehicles out of the streets.
Unfortunately, the representative seems unaware that his suggestions have already been implemented in the past but fizzled along the way.
