Filipino-French actress and television host Solenn Heussaff appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday and denied allegations that she deliberately paid incorrect taxes to the government.
The 27-year-old Heussaff submitted a counter-affidavit explaining her side on the P3.6-million tax evasion charges filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in April this year. Heusaff’s lawyer, Jose Layug Jr. said in a Philippine Star report that there might have been some errors in the documents which could have been corrected had the BIR given them a chance to explain during the preliminary hearing.
Layug said his client only had five days to submit proper documents before the BIR filed the complaint last April 4. On the strength of her counter affidavit and witnesses, Heussaff’s camp asked the DOJ to dismiss the charges for lack of probable cause. The BIR alleges that the celebrity earned PHP13.38 million in 2011, but only declared an income of PHP6.73 million.
