An ID found inside the man’s bag showed that his name is Rodilo Torres Bartolome and that he is a corporal for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

According to the post, a local resident tipped the police about a man standing by a neighborhood store carrying a gun. Torres allegedly reached out for his gun after seeing the police officers, prompting the police to shoot him.

The post also says that some witnesses said Torres did not reach for his gun.

Torres’ wife said in an interview that her husband got down in that part of town after losing his way home from the war in Marawi, a city about 128km. away from Aurora. She spoke to him over the phone before the incident occurred and noticed that her husband was not acting like himself.

Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.
