Their name in English may sound like a Bernardo Bertolucci film but no mistake about it, these “children of the morning dew” spell d-a-n-g-e-r.
Social workers in Manila and local police have teamed up to monitor a special category of streetchildren called “Batang Hamog”.
The Manila Police District says the number of these kids has been slowly rising as we approach Christmas, reports Pilipino Star Ngayon.
“Batang Hamog” tend to prey on hapless pedestrians, stealing their valuables and making a break for it.
Police vow to be on the lookout for street children, as their counterparts in the social welfare department pledge to be more aggressive in implementing programs to keep children off the streets.
