Can’t they just donate it to those who need it?
“The Bureau of Customs (BoC) is auctioning off over PHP160 million worth of glutinous rice this week,” reports Samuel Medenilla in Manila Bulletin.
BOC district collector Elmir De la Cruz explained that “the shipment was confiscated from Bold Bidder Marketing (BBM) after it failed to present the necessary importation documents.” It will be auctioned off this Thursday, August 28, in three batches.
The report noted: “BOC said it will also auction off the seized 36,400 bags of white rice shipment of Jade Bros. and Livestock, Inc., which has an estimated combined price of PHP47 million.”
In case you’re interested, the public auction for the above-mentioned shipments will held at on August 28 at 230pm at the Ground Floor, Conference room, Office of the District Collector Manila International Container Port Building in Manila.
Interested parties are asked to submit their Bidder’s Registration Form and pay the P2,000 registration fee to be allowed to participate in the auction.
The report didn’t say what the BOC plans to do with the money earned from the auction.
