Smokey Mountain group to be relaunched, special requirements for new members

It will be a boy band unlike any other.

“The Filipino singing group Smokey Mountain is looking for new members as it plans a relaunch in time for its 25th anniversary,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Former Smokey Mountain member Geneva Cruz made the announcement in a Twitter post.

In Audition.ph, the statement declared: “To mark its 25th anniversary, Smokey Mountain plans to re-launch with new members. However, unlike 25 years ago when the group consisted of both boys and girls, the new members will be boys only.”

Then the statement explained further: “Another big change is the new Smokey Mountain members will be Muslim and only Muslim boys will be considered for audition. Filipino Muslims have little representation and opportunity in the music industry, so this is a meaningful next step to build upon Smokey Mountain’s legacy.”

As such, auditions are now open for talented Filipino Muslim boys aged 12 to 15. Just check Audition.ph.

By the way, all former members of Smokey Mountain are involved in this audition and plan to mentor the new members. Meanwhile, producer/composer Ryan Cayabyab  will compose new songs for the new members, plus introduce indigenous musical styles, sounds and rhythms into new arrangements of Smokey Mountain classics.
