The controversial Canadian garbage which was illegally dumped in the Philippines six years ago has been loaded up on a cargo ship, which set sail for Canada early this morning.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. posted on Twitter at 8:15am today that shipping company Maersk’s MV Bavaria has set sail with the 69 containers of Canadian trash.
Awwwwwww. I’m gonna miss it so. I forgot to mention that without Tugades’ as usual forceful last minute intervention that garbage would still be on the dick…er, dock as we wave the MV Bavaria a hysterical goodbye. Thank you, Art. pic.twitter.com/dvaNlZTC8N

The Canadian trash has been languishing for six years at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales province, ABS-CBN News reported. The loading of the trash shipment into the ship was completed at around 3am.
MV Bavaria docked near the Subic Bay International Terminal Corp., at 2:30pm yesterday, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. It is set to arrive in the port of Vancouver in Canada on June 22, CNN Philippines reported.
Locsin said that the North American country paid for the transport of the garbage from Manila to Canada, estimated to cost around PHP10 million (US$191,880.92).
Canadian news website CBC News reported that once the trash arrives in Canada, the garbage will be burned in Metro Vancouver’s waste-to-energy incinerator in Burnaby.
The Canadian garbage has sparked a diplomatic row between the two countries, leading the Philippines to recall its representatives to Canada.
As many as 103 containers with Canadian waste such as plastic bottles, bags, and even used adult diapers arrived in Manila from 2013 to 2014. Ontario-based company Chronic Inc. wrongly declared the contents of the containers as recyclable materials.
26 containers have been buried in a Tarlac landfill, while the other eight were also disposed of locally, reported CNN Philippines.
Locsin also said in a tweet today that all recalled Philippine diplomats can “get your flights back.”
“Thanks and sorry for the trouble you went through to drive home a point,” he said in the tweet.
One more tweet.
To our recalled posts, get your flights back. Thanks and sorry for the trouble you went through to drive home a point.
