SM Malls fighting the good fight for proper escalator etiquette

Don’t you just hate it when you’re in a hurry and someone blocks the entire escalator?

Hopefully, those days will be a thing of the past with SM Malls’ latest advocacy: Escalator Etiquette.

Yes, it’s quite unorthodox; a bit weird, too. But admit it, this is something most of us already know but barely practice.

SM Aura Premier, in the bustling business district of Bonifacio Global City, spearheaded this advocacy by posting an escalator attendant on Sun, Sep 4, to assist and remind mall-goers about their “Walk on the left, Stand on the right” policy.

And yes, it’s that simple: Walk on the left side and stand on the right. Easy, right?

Netizen Ken Lerona posted a photo of it on Facebook and it quickly went viral, gaining more than 28,000 likes and shares as of posting.

Lerona wrote, “Kudos to SM Supermalls for starting this discipline. It’s about time we practice this. If we can abide by this rule in other countries, for sure we can do this in our own land.”

The mall giant even shared it on their official SM Malls Facebook page and said, “In our own simple ways, we can make this world a better place to live in.”

As of posting, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City has also joined the advocacy to make shoppers’ lives easier.

This is an advocacy we can all get behind: it’s simple, it requires no special skills or talent, and it makes malls a lot more tolerable.

So, walk on the left side and stand on the right. Let’s have a great time at the mall, alright?

PS. This also works in other malls and the MRT stations (if you’re lucky to be there when the escalators are working).
