Online personality and former Pinoy Big Brother winner Slater Young has apologized for saying that it was normal for men in a relationship to fantasize about women and share their photos in group chats with friends.

Slater found himself at the end of the internet’s ire after making his controversial remarks in a recent episode of the skypodcast, which he hosts with his wife, content creator Kryz Uy.

He was responding to a letter by a fan seeking advice, after her boyfriend admitted to fantasizing about other women and engaging in group chats with friends discussing these fantasies — and even sharing photos around.

In a new episode of the skypodcast, Slater admitted that it had been a “hard and eye-opening [last] few days” as he processed the previous events.

“You know, sometimes you think you did something OK, and it takes a little while for it to sink in that, ‘Oh yeah, I really was wrong there,’” Slater admitted in the episode.

He shared that the onslaught of comments and reactions that seemed to attack him had caused him to get defensive at first.

He added that he eventually read through more comments as he felt like he was in a bubble and could not see what others were trying to say.

“And then I finally realized that ‘Oh my God, I really made a mistake,’ because I’m giving it power to say [objectifying women] is OK, and me saying it’s normal kind of normalizes it and makes it OK,” he reflected, adding that “The last thing in my mind and my heart would be to objectify women.”

“I should’ve called it out and said something like, ‘It happens, but this isn’t OK, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard.’ [But what I said was], ‘Oh it happens, don’t worry about it.’”

Slater said that he felt ashamed after listening to his response and reading articles about the issue.

“When I read the articles, I don’t feel angry, I feel ashamed [that I was quoted that way] and [I felt like,], ‘Ah, this is not me and I wish I could take it back.’”

Kryz showed her support for her husband. “I’m at peace with that, I know you’re a good guy,” she said.
