Their initial demand was a much lesser amount.

“The family of slain transgender Jennifer Laude is seeking PHP200 million for moral and exemplary damages from accused murderer US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton,” reports Jonas Reyes in Tempo.

The current demand is, indeed, larger than the PHP21 million that was allegedly bargained for during the pre-trials.

The trial for the murder case resumed on Mon, Apr 28, as both mother Julita Laude and sister Marilou Laude where put on witness stand. At the hearing, Scene of the Crime Operative (SOCO) Chief Inspector Edmar dela Torre said that he was kept from completing his work after Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) took over the crime scene.

The report noted: “Dela Torre said that he was the first to investigate the crime scene at the room in Cellzone Lodge where Laude and Pemberton had stayed in October 2014. He added that he noticed a condom wrapper but ignored it at first as he took samples of DNA from the used condoms found inside the room.”

Dela Torre added that as he was about to collect the condom wrapper, he “was given a stand-down order by his officials since the NCIS took over the crime scene.”
