“AlDub” is bringing the age old network wars to a whole new level of competition. Lately, there’s the much-publicized spat between SkyCable and GMA-7.
GMA-7 has already filed two complaints before the National Telecommunications Commission citing signal disruption every time the popular Kayleserye is on air. But SkyCable denies it has any hand in the said signal loss.
In a statement, SkyCable maintains there was no network problem that could have caused signal loss be limited to only one channel.
“SkyCable Corporation reiterates that it did not experience any network problem that could have resulted in the loss of GMA 7’s signal only… We take strong exception to GMA’s claim that the signal interruption is confined only to their network since there is no basis for this insinuation,” the ABS-CBN subsidiary says.
GMA had alleged the persistent signal disruptions were “irresponsible acts” on the part of SkyCable, and were meant to put a dent in the ratings of the noontime show Eat Bulaga!.
Curiously, according to GMA’s viewers, the problem crops up during the phenomenal “Kalyeserye” segment, which features the accidental loveteam of Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza. GMA, who also attached the audiences’ comments on their official complaint, also insisted the cases were “not isolated”.
We don’t have to take a look at GMA’s papers to find out what exactly people are complaining about. Here are some tweets, along with photos of their TV screens during Eat Bulaga!

But SkyCable argues that if, indeed, there were cases of signal loss, many channels would be affected as well — not just GMA 7.
“If there were incidents of signal loss affecting certain portions of the network in the areas and period referred to, these affected other channels as well, not just GMA 7,” the statement said.
NTC has yet to act on any of GMA’s complaints.
What do you think? Is this a product of network war as we know it?
