SG prime minister defends Pinoys vs. haters

Where’s all the hate coming from?

“It all started on Sunday, April 20, when the ultranationalist blog The Real Singapore claimed in a statement that event organizers Pilipino Independence Day Council (PIDC)-Singapore undermine the country’s independence as a sovereign state,” reports Camille Diola on Philstar.com.

The blog slammed the PIDC organizers for “using ‘unacceptable’ terms such as ‘interdependence’ with Singapore and ‘two nations, one community’ in explaining their objectives.”

The statement went on to say, “Please respect the voices of Singaporeans, while you are standing on OUR SOIL, OUR LAND.”

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong condemned the blog’s statements. He referred to the “trolls” as “a disgrace to Singapore.” The report indicated that “online protesters had also spammed the PIDC organizers’ Facebook page last week.”

Lee issued a statement wherein he said, “We must treat people in Singapore the way we ourselves expect to be treated overseas. Many Singaporeans live overseas, and are warmly welcomed in their adopted homes. I just attended our Singapore Day in London. How would we have felt if British netizens had spammed our website, and abused Singaporeans living in Britain? Fortunately this appears to be the work of few trolls.”

We thank you, Sir!
