At 3pm on Mon, Mar 28, several roads in the city of Manila will be closed to vehicular traffic to give way to the proclamation rally of reelectionist Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada and his entire ticket.
“Estrada’s proclamation rally will start at 1 p.m. at Liwasang Bonifacio, with the crowd estimated to reach around 40,000,” reports Jose Rodel Clapano in The Philippine Star.
In fact, four areas near Liwasang Bonifacio have been designated for parking: the multimodal parking area beside Quezon Bridge; Magallanes Drive from the Bureau of Immigration to P. Burgos; Victoria Street and the back of Bonifacio Shrine.
The roads that will be closed to traffic starting at 3pm are the following:
1. MacArthur Bridge (southbound) from Plaza Sta. Cruz to Magallanes Drive Extension
2. both lanes of Magallanes Drive Extension from Postal Road to P. Burgos Avenue
3. Muello Del Rio (Riverside Drive) from P. Burgos Avenue to A. Soriano Avenue
4. Quezon Boulevard and A. Mendoza Street (southbound) from Fugoso Street to P. Burgos Ave. fronting Liwasang Bonifacio
5. España Boulevard (westbound) from P. Campa Street to Quezon Boulevard
Superintendent Olivia Sagaysay, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Manila Police District, suggested the following alternative routes:
1. All motorists coming from Rizal Avenue intending to utilize the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge should go straight to Dasmariñas Street.
2. All motorists coming from Escolta Street intending to utilize the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge should turn left to Plaza Sta. Cruz.
3. All motorists coming from Jones Flyover going to Liwasang Bonifacio should go straight to Jones Bridge.
4. All motorists coming from A. Soriano should make a U-turn going to Anda Circle.
5. All motorists intending to utilize Quezon Boulevard coming from A. Mendoza Street (Andalucia) should turn right on Fugoso Street.
6. All motorists coming from Quezon City using the stretch of España should turn right on P. Campa, left on A. Mendoza (Andalucia) and right on Fugoso.
7. All drivers of public utility jeepneys and light vehicles coming from España intending to proceed to the South Pier Zone should turn left lon Nicanor Reyes then turn right or left on C.M. Recto.
