An elderly man was critically injured after being struck by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train this morning in Makati City. He subsequently passed away at Makati Medical Center at 1:55pm, according to The Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The victim, who suffered a severe head injury, was identified as Macario Ylarde Ebreo, 68, a resident of San Andres Bukid in Manila, Abante Tonite reported. The accident happened at about 10:15am on Osmeña Highway cor. Buendia Avenue in Barangay (village) San Antonio.
PNR spokeswoman Josephine Geronimo told ABS-CBN news that Ebreo had attempted to cross the tracks as the train was approaching, saying it appeared as if he didn’t notice the train moving towards him. The train was traveling from Tutuban in Manila to Alabang.
The driver has been identified as Lavadero Santos. It was not immediately clear if he faces any consequences, though he could theoretically be charged with reckless imprudence.
