Senate passes anti-bullying law

Anyone who has experienced being bullied in school can now breathe a small sigh of relief.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted in favor of the anti bullying bill and will set the wheels in motion to protect students all over the country from being bullied in schools and college campuses. Senator Edgardo Angara said in a GMA News report that the approved measure tasks the Department of Education (DepEd) to come up with administrative sanctions for schools who fail to develop and implement anti-bullying policies in their respective campuses.

The law has defined bullying as “any severe or repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture, or any combination thereof.” Both Houses of Congress will be convening to approve the final version of the law before sending it to the President for final approval.
