Senator Vicente Sotto III will be resigning from his post as Senate majority leader, a day after Senator Juan Ponce Enrile resigned as senate president. The resignation, which came on the last session day of the 15th Congress, would take effect after the Senate adjourns.
Sotto, a member of minority party Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino, said in a Radio DZMM report that he will still finish the session and submit an accomplishment report before quitting his post.
He said he is tired.
Left unsaid is that the Senate will hold elections for new officers when it convenes for the 16th Congress anyway. With the Liberal Party-led administration coalition having more seats than the United Nationalist Alliance, of which PMP is a member, Sotto’s removal as majority leader is already a given.
