Will we ever escape our porky past?
The country’s proposed PHP2.268-trillion national budget for 2014 is currently being heard in the Senate plenary and, already, there’s pork talk.
“As the Senate started plenary deliberations this week for ‘pork-less’ appropriations next year, it discovered two ‘pork-like’ provisions in the budgets of the Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units (LGU) that were inserted into the proposed 2014 national budget,” reports Ernie P. Reyes on InterAksyon.com.
The report further explained that “Senate President Franklin Drilon identified the congressional insertions in the Special Provision 2 of the DepEd’s budget and in the Special Provision 3 (c) of the Special Shares of LGUs in the proceeds of the national taxes.”
