“The Senate has passed on third and final reading Senate Bill 2488, also known as the Prohibition on Children Riding Motorcycles Act of 2015, which aims to ban small children from riding as passengers on a motorcycle,” reports ANC.
The bill was authored by Acting Minority Leader Tito Sotto.
The report noted that the restriction stipulated in the bill is not absolute, as “the measure will not apply to remote places or provinces where there is no considerable vehicular traffic or where motorcycles are the only means of transportation.”
Sotto added that “exemptions also include emergency cases and children who can plant their feet on the motorcycle’s foot peg and whose arms are long enough to wrap around the driver.”
