Truth be told, it often seems like the Bureau of Internal Revenue loves their complicated tax forms so much.
“Senator Sonny Angara is calling on the BIR to simplify the current tax system to encourage more Filipinos, especially self-employed individuals, to pay their taxes,” reports Hannah Torregoza in Manila Bulletin.
Angara pointed out that “the existing tax payment scheme is complicated making it difficult for small entrepreneurs to catch up with big corporations.”
Angara said that “the BIR’s nationwide public information campaign on the basic steps to comply with the payment of correct taxes is not enough.”
“It is commendable but this might not be enough. What we need to do is to incentivize our taxpayers, especially the informal sector. We should make it easy for them to comply for us to be able to widen our tax base,” he said.
