Sen. Risa Hontiveros donates copies of ‘Marcos Martial Law: Never Again’ to high school students

With historical revisionism on the loose in social media networks, one lawmaker decided to set the record straight right where it’s needed: the youth.

Senator Risa Hontiveros went to Quezon City High School (QCHS) on Fri, Aug 26, to donate student copies of Marcos Martial Law: Never Again by veteran investigative journalist Raissa Robles.

Hontiveros, with martial law survivor and former Commission on Human Rights chairperson Etta Rosales, addressed senior high school students at QCHS: “Let the youth treasure the price of democracy.”

“It’s a small gesture to save history… Efforts of historical revisionism can be thwarted by investing in this small project targeting our young people. We hope to get support from others and from school administrators as well,” said Hontiveros, an activist who marched against former president Ferdinand Marcos in 1986 at the first People Power Revolution in EDSA.

“Aside from presenting statistics, young people are able to see themselves in stories of heroism and martyrdom,” Hontiveros said. “True stories matter.”

In a statement posted on her Facebook page, Hontiveros said Robles’ book will be donated to public schools around the Philippines.
