Sen. Jinggoy Estrada won’t be transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa

He’s staying right where he is.

“Due to congestion and lack of assurance of security at jails run by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Sandiganbayan 5th Division has decided to keep Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame,” reports Jeffrey Damicog in Manila Bulletin.

The prosecution team had earlier argued that “the PNP Custodial Center is not a regular jail” so “Estrada should be transferred to a BJMP-administered jail at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.”

However, in a resolution signed by Associate Justices Roland Jurado, Alexander Gesmundo, and Theresa Estoesta, the Sandiganbayan denied the motion “for lack of merit.”

The Sandiganbayan pointed out that “the BJMP, in view of their undermanned situation and having limited resources, cannot guarantee the safety and security of high-profiled, high-risk inmates in this case and other cases pending in other courts.”

If you ask us, it sure seems like these high-profile prisoners are more protected than we are.
