Now that he’s detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial center in Camp Crame for plunder charges and not doing any driving, Senator Bong Revilla is driven to find out what the heck is causing the problem with license plates.

“On Monday, April 27, Revilla issued a statement asking the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to explain within three days the shortage of vehicle license plates,” reports Christina Mendez in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “Revilla, chairman of the Senate committee on public service, called on LTO Assistant Secretary Alfonso Tan Jr. to submit a report and answer all the points raised by car owners and dealers on the problem.”

The embattled senator was quoted as saying, “It is better if the LTO officials concerned will see me in person and talk about the issue at the soonest possible time.”

Revilla, of course, can’t leave the PNP custodial center, as he’s been there since last year due to his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.

He said car owners, who pay P500 for the plates during a renewal of registration or for the registration of a new car, deserve better service from the agency.

Revilla went on to slam the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) for issuing its “no plate, no travel” policy and the LTO for implementing it.

Revilla added, “The ‘no plate, no travel policy’ could not be implemented because the LTO could not perform its mandate and obligations [in making the new plates available to vehicle owners]. The policy of centralizing the registration bears semblance of a monopoly or control to favor car dealers and insurance companies.”
