Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is running for higher office in 2016 but has yet to decide if he’ll aim to be President or Vice President.

In an interview, Cayetano also said he may run as an independent candidate. He said he will look at the latest surveys before making an announcement in September.

“I’ve decided to run but the question is whether for President or Vice President. It is just what position and with who…How can I help more people? Definitely higher office will help me help other people. I can’t help other people if I lose. The question lang is – in which position do I have a chance?” he said.

The senator said that as President, he can implement his vision while a Vice Presidential position would mean he would be in advisory role.

Cayetano said an internal survey has shown that he is in a statistical tie with Senator Francis Escudero in the vice-presidential race if Sen. Grace Poe is also included in the list of potential VP bets.

However, he said his numbers are higher if Poe is not included in the list.

“People look at me and Chiz practically the same way. Sabay kami sa Congress. We have the same issues, the same age,” he said.

Cayetano said he is not open to joining Vice-President Jejomar Binay because of the corruption issues against the latter.

He also said he is open to becoming the running-mate of Secretary Mar Roxas in 2016, saying they have yet to talk formally.

He said some members of the Liberal Party do not want him as Roxas’ running-mate because he is verbose and because he is also criticizing some LP members.
