‘Selfie protocol’ being drawn up for mayor Rody after being mobbed by supporters

We know that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte has reached rockstar status because a “selfie protocol” is now being drawn up for supporters who want to have a photograph with the Davao mayor.

This comes after a near fall for Duterte when well-wishers mobbed him for a selfie on Tuesday, May 16.

The mayor has a reputation for being accessible to the public, but that has to change now that his safety and security must be ensured, Inquirer reports.

According to Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz a strict screening process, a holding room for the media, and a by-appointment-only access will be implemented at the Matina Enclaves where Duterte has been receiving well-wishers and visitors.

“I know that Mayor Duterte does not want so many people securing him but we have to do our job. The situation is different now than when he was just our mayor,” Driz said.

The police spokesperson said that cars and other vehicle sentering the Matutina enclaves will also be regulated. Only those belonging to the mayor and his staff, and those of other dignitaries, will be allowed to come in.

Members of the media should also stay in a specific holding area. They should also submit themselves to security screening.

With 2,000 uniformed personnel deployed in strategic areas, the entire city of Davao is now under tighter security.
